Pop That Collar

Don’t worry – I’m not referring to last decade’s popped collar trend, made popular by prepsters and hip hop stars. I’m referring to the latest trend for fashion forward females: COLLARS THAT POP. The bedazzled collar first emerged on the fashion scene last spring and it continues to thrive as a trend on and off the runways. Embellished collars decked out in jewels, pearls, beads and studs are all the rage this season giving every outfit a more polished, put together look.

There are two types of collars “popping” up these days: Tuxedo and Peter Pan. Tuxedo refers to collars that have pointed ends like a tuxedo shirt and fit snuggly around the neck. This style offers a more edgy, masculine look and is often topped off with a vintage brooch, pinned in the center of the collar.

Peter Pan, refers to collars shaped with round edges and wide collar splits. These types of collars give off a vintage vibe and add a feminine touch to any ensemble.

For my fellow frugal fashionistas, who aren't willing to spend a fortune on a wardrobe of adorned collars: Have no fear! The detachable collar necklace is here! The collar necklace is a fabulous and affordable way to revamp what you already have in your closet and to take any outfit from boring to beautiful in seconds! Pop these jeweled pieces on with dresses, blouses and sweaters and you’ll be sure to make a statement. I personally love this trend because you can take nearly anything in your closet and make it new and fresh by adding this cute little accessory. For those of you who are feeling crafty, consider embellishing your own collars to create a one of a kind, original design!

What A Gem!

Looking for elegance without the expense? Look no further than this fall's hottest new hues: Jewel Tones. Fashion's palette has moved on from summer’s neon brights to rich deep shades of sapphire, amethyst, emerald and ruby. These saturated jewel tones add richness to any fall look, allowing you to look like a million bucks without spending a fortune!

For maximum impact and dramatic effect, wear one color from head to toe, such as a bright ruby red dress. Be sure to keep this vibrant dress the main attraction and opt for classic heels and minimal accessories like a traditional clutch and delicate jewelry. When it comes to gem tones, less is definitely more! Not quite ready for the attention these gem tones command? Try spicing up an all black or neutral ensemble with jewel toned jewelry and accessories.

PEP TALK

One of spring’s hottest trends is still holding strong for fall and this sassy silhouette cannot be ignored. If you haven’t done so already ladies, it’s time to spice up your fall wardrobe with the flirty, feminine, fabulous Peplum! For those of you who don’t already know, a Peplum is an exaggerated hem typically attached to a blouse, jacket, skirt or dress.

This sexy silhouette originated in Ancient Greece and continued to make its mark on the Victorian Era as well as the 1940s and 1950s.

Now in 2012, the Peplum is back yet again to flatter our figures and hide our flaws. This sexy frill helps accentuate a woman’s waistline and curves, enhancing a defined hourglass shape. For ladies with petite waists, look for a smaller peplum, which will show off your slim figure and add a little volume to your hips. If you have large hips, look for a larger peplum that will hide this feature and make you look slimmer. When it comes to color, busty babes should look for peplum tops in dark colors, while bootylicious beauties should aim for tops in light colors to balance your proportions. Peplum tops are typically matched with pencil skirts, but can also be worn with sleek trousers, distressed denim, and shorts. No matter how you wear it one thing’s for certain: This sexy frill is here to stay!
